Windsurfing: Jericoacoara, Brazil Wind Direction: S/SE Wind Stength: 20 knots Surf / Sea State: Flat/small swell Air Temperature: Scorchio! Sea Temperature: Scorchio! Weather: Cloudy Max Speed: Distance Covered:
First day here yesterday and sods law no surprise - no wind (even though
apparently it´s blown every day here for the past 3 weeks). A weather
front was passing over which was trying to make wind blow from the SW,
instead of the usual E. Not much wind today either until about 3pm when it
filled in, though not quite all the way round to the cross-shore E
direction.
Wind was very offshore and gusty/non-existent from the beach so had to slog
out from the bay past the point to the open sea where it was more
consistent. This took ages but once out back had one or two good runs, with
about 10 other people out. Never sailed with a fin as small as 20.5cm, so
took some getting used to - early planing and getting upwind efficiently
weren´t really happening. Only out for about 45 mins when wind began to
die, so started to slog back again towards the beach. Ended up drifting way
way downwind, a good 500m+ from the beach, and in the end gave up and had
to swim my kit in for 20 mins. All good fun.
Hopefully wind will return tomorrow from it´s normal direction, so less
crappy gusty stuff.
